1. We visited some interesting museums in Lima.
|

2. Followed by a wonderful meal of seafood. Gavin's smile says it all.

3. Then an afternoon stroll through the suburb of Barranco. |

4. Then it was off to Iquitos, here in Belen the floating section of the city. |

5. The locals were curious to see us.
|

6. And we were curious to see the local market, here you see the fruit section is mixed with the fresh meat, fish and socks - surely there was a method to their madness. |

7. We took a boat ride through Belen and couldn't stop looking around trying to imagine living on a river.
|

8. Mototaxis are the main mode of the tranport in Iquitos, seeing as there are no roads connecting the city to the outside world, these innovative vehicles got you from A to B in no time at all. |

9. Heading out on the Marranon one of the tributaries to the mighty Amazon River. Let the Amazon experience begin.

10. In some places it was quite wet underfoot, so gumboots were the order of the day. |

11. These terrapins were cute as a button. |

12. The reflections and cloud formations in this part of the world are amazing. |

13. We saw giant water lillies.

14. The local village high school put on an interesting dance show for us. |

15. This sort of transportation is typical in the region. . . |

16. or the more upmarket version with a sun protector and outboard. |

17. This sloth was quite the sight, hanging from a kapok tree.

18. Look Mum, no hands. |

19. The macaws filled the air with their raucous banter.
|

20. A palm tree breaks through a clearing having found some light. |

21. We went piranha fishing - here, Gavin shows off his catch.

22. This long feathered heron was gorgeous. |

23. These 3 cuties were pleased to accompany us (and giggle) on our village walk.

24. This sunset, on out last night, was truly memorable. |

25. Although we are not certain exactly what sort of bug this is, he sure is colourful like most things in the Amazon.

26. Jan had a go at the Tarzan swing. |

27. Maria Elena and Rey did a great job taking care of us in the Amazon.

28. Evelyn bravely handled this big boa constrictor . |
