Article, Everest Trek, NP1

If you’ve ever dreamed of setting eyes on Mt. Everest, then this is the trek for you. Leaving Kathmandu, fly into Lukla for a 17 day trek (includes festival days) into the very heartland of the High Himalayas; passing through Lukla, Namche Bazaar, Kumjung, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuje and Gorak Shep, make your way towards Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp. The trail will take you through a region of awe-inspiring mountain scenery as it climbs through the homelands of the Sherpa people.

The Mani Rimdu Festival will be held in Tengboche towards the end of October. A most important religious event in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar, the Mani Rimdu runs for nine days with ceremonies and processions, culminating with the spectacular Mask Dances performed by the monks of Tengboche Monastery in a day long ceremony. This noisy and colourful festival takes place in a spectacular setting; a mediaeval monastery just below the stunningly beautiful peak of Amadablam. We are fortunate that the timing of this year’s trek allows us the opportunity to attend and we plan to be in Tengboche for the last 2 days of the festival only, when the major events will take place.
